Kill Bill – The Whole Bloody Affair

Kill Bill

The Whole Bloody Affair is the name for the integral version of Kill Bill. That version initially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 (not entirely identical to the version that can be seen today) and was unseen until a theatrical wide release in December 2025. Quentin showed it at his theater a few times, but it remained almost a myth for decades. It is comprised of both Volumes of Kill Bill, plus material missing from the US and international versions (but was included in the Japanese release). The chapters order slightly adjusted, the cliffhangers and tags are dropped, no Klingon proverb, and of course one, combined, opening/closing credits sequence. Tarantino had Production IG do an additional seven minute anime sequence for the O-Ren chapter, which was not shown at Cannes (it wasn’t ready then). Empire Online was one of the few online magazines that provide a review of the uncut Kill Bill (at least in the Cannes version without the complete anime material) back then. The US theatrical release in December 2025 also added an additional mini episode called “Yuki’s Revenge” from the video game fortnight (but this is not part of the VOD version). International 70MM (possibly also 35MM) copies also show this one after the closing credits.

The Differences

Main changes are

  • No “klingon proverb” quote. Instead a dedication to Kinju Fukasaku.
  • House of Blue Leaves fight massacre in color, slightly differently cut / uncut (like Japanese version)
  • Gorier anime scenes
  • Extra anime footage added, featuring the Bride going after one of Tanaka’s henchmen in an elevator
  • various other scenes slightly longer
  • Sofie Fatale loses more limbs
  • No “baby” cliffhanger ending
  • Intermission
  • Some slight additions in the second part.
  • Post-credits: the 2025/2026 70MM version has a post credits sequence (fake 70s concession stand ad plus Yuki’s Revenge)

Quentin Tarantino in an interview with us on January 12, 2009:
“We’ve actually added some things to it. We did a whole little chapter that I wrote and designed for the animated sequence, that we never did, because we figured, back when it was gonna be one big movie, it was going to be too long, so we didn’t do it. So when we were talking about re-releasing it, they asked is there anything you can put in, and I said no I put everything in there, but… there’s one sequence that we wouldn’t even have to shoot! So we got together with Production IG and did it, and it’s really cool. So it’s this little seven minute sequence, it’s really cool, it’s in the O-Ren chapter.” (Click here to read our interview with Tarantino on the Whole Bloody Affair).

For the most part, The Whole Bloody Affair is the combined Japanese cuts of the film, with additional altercations.
