More clarification on German and Japanese Grindhouse DVDs

As we reported earlier, the upcoming German DVD release of Grindhouse will be in a 1.85:1 format, which means Death Proof (which was shot in open-matte Super35mm or something, I guess) will be slightly more ‘open’ than its theatrical exhibition of 2.35:1 cinemascope format. The producers of the German DVD have confirmed that this is the official PAL master from The Weinstein Company, and they have also let it be known that the Japanese DVD, while sporting a complete 2.35:1 transfer, was pulled from non-official material, which also explains the slightly inferior image quality. The German DVD will feature the “intermission” in 2.35:1 though. An American release of Grindhouse is not planned (at least not for this year).
