Inglourious Basterds is here (opening in the US friday, in Germany tomorrow, in France today), and oh boy will it be Inglourious to see it again. Quentin was on Letterman (who would rather have had Brad Pitt) yesterday (click here for a video) and I enjoyed that quite a bit. There’s a little review of the film on thestarpress.com, and a very negative one (if you like to read that stuff) on …

While I’m still digesting the amazing experience the Berlin premiere of Inglourious Basterds has been, I have not been idle. The following is an excerpt from my opening paragraph of a review of Inglourious Basterds, click the link below to finish reading the entire text. I’ve tried to keep spoilers to a minimum but depending on how much you already know about the film, be warned, there are minor spoilers included. Some say Tarantino’s …

We’ve been a bit quiet lately, and yes while there was stuff out there that I could’ve easily written about, I was a bit busy with other things, which gave you lots of opportunity to dive into our Forums, read up on Spaghetti Westerns or discover the Deuce. Or do more important things. But if you rather have your dose of Inglourious Basterds on a daily basis, with some french dressing and curly fries, …

You really thought we wouldn’t find a way to present you with an exclusive review of Inglourious Basterds directly from the Cannes Film Festival? Think again, my friends. Despite all odds, we dispatched the danger-man of international film criticism to another noon screening of Tarantino’s film with the task of writing the review you haven’t read yet, so behold the words of the Wise:
“On second viewing, Ingourious Basterds really holds up; it’s a slick, …

What a night it must have been at the Inglourious Basterds premiere. Just to give you a few impressions, here’s a few things you can look at: a) Pictures from the premiere red carpet event, see Tarantino dance! b) Part 1 and 2 of the press conference (some pictures) c) another feature on the premiere with the red carpet arrivals and Quentin Tarantino’s crazy dance! Even though reviews so far were sort of mixed, …

Cannes is happening, my fellow Tarantinoites (or Tarantinophiles, in LeMonde’s words). There are three new clips from the movie up at movieweb.com that give a better impression of a) Brad’s accent and personality b) Diane Kruger’s hot french accent, c) the evil that is personified in Landa and d) the use of Morricone’s L’Arena in Inglourious Basterds. Watch the three clips right here.
Also, the first two screenings have happened (the big premiere is tonight …

Happy monday everyone. While I still don’t have a personal broadband connection, at least I found the time to plant myself (“I said plant, plants don’t talk”) in the library and sift through the millions of emails that have gathered up over the last few weeks while I was moving to a new city. For those who don’t know I officially started grad school today, but don’t worry, I’ve said it years ago and …

When it comes to TV series, our friends in Britain run a very bizarre business. Most British TV series do not run for a very long time, in the case of Spaced only two seasons, and there’s a flurry of funny little shows every other year, leading as a whole to lots of diversity and fun, but also to danger of things falling under the radar. Spaced did not fall under the radar, it …

Note sure whether you need to go see Quentin Tarantino dressed up as an old man and having a fake accent? Cowboy samurais and slow-motion bullets, cool Japan pop Spaghetti Western music and hot senoritas? Please enjoy Jim Rohner’s review of Sukiyaki Western Django. Jim is a film critic at Zoom-In Online, here’s an excerpt from the review:
Miike fan or not, one thing everyone should be able to agree on is the astounding visual …

One week until the BluRay releases of both Kill Bill volumes hit American shelves (I guess you can no longer call them DVD shelves, but then again, I’m one of those unlucky individuals unable to afford even an old-fashioned TV these days, not to mention anything HD, but nevermind), and I’m reading a pre-release review of the two discs by a blogger who’s everything else but not a fan of these two movies, nevertheless, …

You’ve gotta hand it to Larry Bishop. Any film that garners a bad review starting off describing the film as “a biker film, a spaghetti Western, a soft-core porno, a slice of macho poetry” (the review also talks about the chracters: “They act tough and commit brutality and fool around with legions of hot hookers”, hell yeah!) is at the same time – at least in my book – exactly the exploitation-type film I …

As promised, here’s an exclusive pre-release review of Larry Bishop’s Hell Ride, written by Lance Polland, also co-writer/director of the upcoming anthology film Slices, which should hit your DVD shelf later this year. Hell Ride stars Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones, David Carradine, Leonor Varela, Eric Balfour and Dennis Hopper. The film opens limited in the United States next week August 8. Here’s an excerpt:
…..From the opening title sequence to the closing end credits I …

After The Dirty Dozen was released in 1967, it was a big smash in Europe and it soon spawned a whole bunch of remakes by Italian directors. In the late 70s, Italian master director Enzo G. Castellari did his own spin on the “men on a mission” film with Quel Maledetto Treno Blindatto aka The Inglorious Bastards. Being an incredible stylist of cinema, Il Maestro Castellari brought a wild, raucous vision of war to …

The folks at Latino Review also have gotten their hands on the holy grail. Their review of Quentin’s final draft of the Inglorious Bastards (Inglourious Basterds as it sais) script is not as over-excited as the one from last night, but they call it “the most enjoyable read of the year for me so far. Again, a masterpiece. Killer dialogue, excellent execution, and master craftsmanship by Tarantino.” Read it here.

Just as I managed to lower my heart rate after the thrill that’s been watching the Hell Ride trailer all afternoon, the Inglorious Bastards script seems to raise heart rates else where on the internets. I had to force myself to only skim the review that New York Magazine’s Vulture blog has up. I could barely do it. While the authors do consider the slight possibility that the typo-infested script (the Kill Bill script …
