While the majority of Tarantino fans are probably waiting for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair to hit DVD shelves this August for synergy effects related to the theatrical release of Inglourious Basterds, it seems like that fortune is reserved for Grindhouse. Press releases seem to indicate, according to BD News, that Genius Products, the WeinsteinCo’s home video distribution arm, is set to release Grindhouse on a 2-disc BluRay set on August 11. No …

If you hire Machete to kill the bad guy, make sure the bad guy isn’t you! Via our friends at Slashfilm and The Playlist, comes news that RobRod and his companero in the directing chair (Rodriguez will produce) will start production on the feature-length Machete in about 5 weeks. Turning the Grindhouse trailer into a full-fledged feature film has been in discussion for a long time now, and it’s great to see this …

Looks like he’s back with a vengeance. Danny Trejo as Machete, the title character of the opening faux trailer from Grindhouse, will return to the big screen (or the small one if it goes straight to DVD). Variety learned that Robert Rodriguez, who seems to be attached to a dozen projects right now, including his own project Nerverackers, a Predator remake, Sin City 2 (which seems to be without a studio backer right now) …

Hello I’m back, and via Cinema Blend comes some news related to a possible Grindhouse release in the US later this year. The movie as it was originally shown there in theaters has never seen the inside of a DVD player except in Japan, so fans are eagerly waiting for this (and *sigh* yes also for the Kill Bill Whole Bloody Affair). CinemaBlend writes that Robert Rodriguez, who had been interviewed at the SXSW …

Earlier this week we exclusively treated you to Quentin’s official list of favorite Spaghetti Westerns (check it out if you missed that), and this weekend we’re taking it another step and we’ll present his top 20 list of old grindhouse movies. Our “Man from Hollywood” actually placed very high importance on this list, not only because The Deuce applied a wider definition of the term “grindhouse” (our sister site had posted its own Top …

Once Upon A Time in the Phillipines, exploitation cinema ruled. In the early 1960s, Directors like Gerardo DeLeon & Eddie Romero came up with a new kind of sci fi horror film and went on to create the “Blood Island” …

Happy monday everyone. While I still don’t have a personal broadband connection, at least I found the time to plant myself (“I said plant, plants don’t talk”) in the library and sift through the millions of emails that have gathered up over the last few weeks while I was moving to a new city. For those who don’t know I officially started grad school today, but don’t worry, I’ve said it years ago and …

Infected People don’t get much lovin’ from the German film ratings board these days. The BPJS, the Germany regulatory body where the buck stops in terms of film ratings has decided to classify Robert Rodriguez‘ splatter extravaganza Planet Terror as a hazard to adolescents and is including it it it’s “Index” on List part A, to be officially announced September 30th. The ban means that the movie will no longer be allowed to be …

Just a short heads up for you home video lovers out there. Sad news first: the announced German DVD of Grindhouse has been postponed until 2009, indicating a possible simultaneous worldwide release instead. Hardcore fans will thus have to stick with the overpriced Japanese box with the inferior transfer. I also got the Swedish Hell Ride DVD in the mail today. More sad news for all you importers: there are no extras on that …

As we reported earlier, the upcoming German DVD release of Grindhouse will be in a 1.85:1 format, which means Death Proof (which was shot in open-matte Super35mm or something, I guess) will be slightly more ‘open’ than its theatrical exhibition of 2.35:1 cinemascope format. The producers of the German DVD have confirmed that this is the official PAL master from The Weinstein Company, and they have also let it be known that the Japanese …

Variety reports that Tarantino pal Eli Roth is in talks to play Sgt. Donowitz in Inglorious Bastards. The paper writes that  Quentin is to “expected to formalize his cast shortly”, we hope that’s true so we can report some facts every once in a while. Roth directed both Hostel films (part two has just recently been banned in Germany) and contributed the notorious Thanksgiving trailer to Grindhouse. He had a small role in Death …

When we launched THE DEUCE: GRINDHOUSE CINEMA DATABASE last year, we knew it was going to be a tough endeavor. A range of films that exceeds the scope of the Spaghetti Western Database, a lack of time and energy that could be devoted, numerous technical obstacles and and uphill battle for visitors and contributors. But now our baby is a year old and me and Pete Roberts, who’s your “projeccionista” at The Deuce, are …

It is here: the CS-exclusive red band trailer for Hell Ride. Larry Bishop brings us some good old biker grudges, booze, sexy ladies, beers and kickin’ rock and roll. It’s Dennis Hopper being mean, Michael Madsen being Michael Madsen, David Carradine as a twisted version of Bill and Leonor Varela as the sexiest woman in a biker movie ever. Period. The trailer features some Grindhouse-style get-you-in-the-mood thrills and a whole series of one-liners. Check …

Did you just get a heart attack as you read that headline? I hope not. Because aside from Japan, where the film is already available as a 6 DVD box, the movie has only just been announced in Germany. No details are yet confirmed aside from the fact that it is probably Grindhouse only, without the two movies extra as in Japan, also no word yet on bonus features or language tracks, so far …

While stumbling by Regensburg’s (Germany) Garbo theater the other night, I noticed a sign that said “Ab morgen: Grindhouse” (opening tomorrow: Grindhouse), so I went online this week, and I was positively surprised. The German theatrical release date for Grindhouse is in fact the 3rd of July, the movie is actually coming out! The particular theater is actually having an exclusive pre-premiere, and their website sais there will only be two copies of the …

The Golden Schmoes , the annual awards from the folks over at Joblo .com, are way more democratic than, say, The Academy “Awards”. What makes the Schmoes great, are categories such as “best TnA” or “best line of the year”. Grindhouse won 5 times. As most underrated movie of the year (althought that is clearly a weird win, because it wasn’t UNDERrated, it was underVISITED), trippiest movie of the year, best horror movie of …
