As we’re deep into the Oscars season, speculation heats about about Inglourious Basterds‘ chances of taking home one or more of the shiny little golden oscar statues. The Academy has increased the number of nominees from 5 to 10, which makes things a little more complicated, and absent a blockbuster that would unanimously be considered “the thing” (think a movie along the lines of Forrest Gump, which snatched it from Pulp Fiction in ’95, …

Inglourious Basterds has finally hit Japan, and it hit hard. Here are a few pictures from the premiere. Click here also for posters. The film premiered in the capital Tokyo with Quentin Tarantino, Melanie Laurent, Julie Dreyfus and a raggedy-bearded Brad Pitt in attendance. According to Boxofficemojo.com, the movie has made quite an enormous amount of box-office box internationally, yet their tally of numbers seems far from complete. The Weinstein Company and Universal Pictures …

To make this really quick, Inglourious Basterds will hit BluRay and DVD (as stated a few times already) before christmas (and after christmas in some countries). We have started compiling a list of all BluRay releases and a separate list of all DVD releases. Please note that these lists are still subject to change, as various Amazons correct the cover image and different version they get from the distributors. The movie will mostly be …

Basterds is still making money like crazy (Source: ABC) and it’s still keeping columnists busy (this one: click; still gets the name wrong and some other things, but it’s a good read). At the same time, the BluRay and DVD release definitely seems to be going down before christmas (Source), so we are now trying to keep our Basterds DVD and BluRay overview page updated as much as possible. Stay tuned!

Just when I tried to calm things down in me previous post, which some might’ve considered as some sort of a rant against those Kill Bill Vol3 stories, more “new Tarantino movie” rumors are popping up. By way of our friend Rama at Rama’s Screen (a movie blog you can’t not read daily!), we heard that Quentin mentioned to Variety, that whatever he does between now and Kill Bill Volume 3 (if he does …

While the majority of Tarantino fans are probably waiting for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair to hit DVD shelves this August for synergy effects related to the theatrical release of Inglourious Basterds, it seems like that fortune is reserved for Grindhouse. Press releases seem to indicate, according to BD News, that Genius Products, the WeinsteinCo’s home video distribution arm, is set to release Grindhouse on a 2-disc BluRay set on August 11. No …

Hello I’m back, and via Cinema Blend comes some news related to a possible Grindhouse release in the US later this year. The movie as it was originally shown there in theaters has never seen the inside of a DVD player except in Japan, so fans are eagerly waiting for this (and *sigh* yes also for the Kill Bill Whole Bloody Affair). CinemaBlend writes that Robert Rodriguez, who had been interviewed at the SXSW …

I have to say I do not personally own high definition equipment, currently I don’t even own a TV or DVD player. But one thing that has puzzled me these past few months is how much love Death Proof got from BluRay Disc reviewers. When reviewing DVDs or BluRay of course the main aspect is the disc quality, extras and such like, and the movie is only part of the final verdict, but still, …

Happy monday everyone. While I still don’t have a personal broadband connection, at least I found the time to plant myself (“I said plant, plants don’t talk”) in the library and sift through the millions of emails that have gathered up over the last few weeks while I was moving to a new city. For those who don’t know I officially started grad school today, but don’t worry, I’ve said it years ago and …

Infected People don’t get much lovin’ from the German film ratings board these days. The BPJS, the Germany regulatory body where the buck stops in terms of film ratings has decided to classify Robert Rodriguez‘ splatter extravaganza Planet Terror as a hazard to adolescents and is including it it it’s “Index” on List part A, to be officially announced September 30th. The ban means that the movie will no longer be allowed to be …

Guess what, bikers, I’ve finally seen Hell Ride. And to mark the occasion, I watched it twice and cooked up a review that is – for a change – not safe for work (NSFW). The review is full of slightly foul language and lots of pictures of naked women (DVD screenshots). I was hoping to be able to announce that the awesome soundtrack to this movie is available already but unfortunately it is not …

When it comes to TV series, our friends in Britain run a very bizarre business. Most British TV series do not run for a very long time, in the case of Spaced only two seasons, and there’s a flurry of funny little shows every other year, leading as a whole to lots of diversity and fun, but also to danger of things falling under the radar. Spaced did not fall under the radar, it …

Just a short heads up for you home video lovers out there. Sad news first: the announced German DVD of Grindhouse has been postponed until 2009, indicating a possible simultaneous worldwide release instead. Hardcore fans will thus have to stick with the overpriced Japanese box with the inferior transfer. I also got the Swedish Hell Ride DVD in the mail today. More sad news for all you importers: there are no extras on that …
