About those Kill Bill Volume 3 stories this week

You’ve probably read them. They’re everywhere. Headlines like “Get ready for Kill Bill Vol.3″ or “Tarantino confirms Vol.3″ etc. Why a I not running this story that way? Because it’s a non story. And I’ll tell you why. For one, Quentin Tarantino has given the exact same comments when asked about Volume 3 he has given years ago. So no change there. Second, it’s a slow-news phase, so blogs will jump on anything non-Basterds …

says Maryanne Bilbao in a quick review at AC. With the US opening day behind us, and Germany moving into the third evening, things are heating up for the Inglourious Basterds. Personally, I haven’t managed to see it in theaters again, yet, but many many friends have and pretty much everyone was quite blown away. In our previous entry I’ve given a little rundown of recent articles and reviews, and you can still check …

Drew McWeeney used to write as “Moriarty” for AICN, he now has a column at HitFix called Motion Captured. If you have a free spot in your morning RSS fix, then subscribe, he’s one of the best movie critics on the net, and for the following paragraph, I’m puting him in my cool book. You’ve probably heard of this whole story and I’ve mentioned it before, so without going much into it, just enjoy …

Monday’s random commentary.
While we would never go as far as calling him “Pitt-ler”, as some unfortunate editorial has done, and which we find inappropriate, we do fully support Brad Pitt‘s crusade of bringing back the moustache. Not only are they underappreciated and undeservingly shunned by the mainstream, they are just plainly badass (Magnum, Wyatt Earp, etc). Aldo Raine will go down as a movie character that re-started the moustache as fashionable, and I wholly …

The film isn’t even in the can, it hasn’t even been cast yet, and already there’s a gazillion of websites quoting one (!!) German film critic, or one (!!) article in a respectable German newspaper about how Inglorious Bastards might (!) hurt some feelings among the German public over the film’s likely depiction – and elimination – of Nazis by the hands of Brad Pitt‘s all-Jewish commando unit. The latest bit is in Vulture, …

You’ve gotta hand it to Larry Bishop. Any film that garners a bad review starting off describing the film as “a biker film, a spaghetti Western, a soft-core porno, a slice of macho poetry” (the review also talks about the chracters: “They act tough and commit brutality and fool around with legions of hot hookers”, hell yeah!) is at the same time – at least in my book – exactly the exploitation-type film I …

This is a sad week for online journalism. The internet is abuzz with B.S. rumors (stands for Bull Shit and also the initials of a dumbass former popsinger) and everyone just reprints/republishes them without using their brains. From MTV to AICN (which runs the story and an article debunking it at the same time, that’s a new one), thousands of people are reading a totally baseless rumor about Quentin Tarantino remaking Faster Pussycat, Kill, …

These days it seems that not many “news” blogs and websites seem to use their brains when it comes to reporting “news” out of Hollywood. Take these rumors that – hold your breath – Britney Spears has been “cast” (I will not dignify that crap with a link, google that bullshit yourselves) in a supposed “remake” of Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! that are floating around Google news these days. First of all, people, take …

I just read Defamer’s “rant” about Tarantino’s “overexposure” (regarding the publicity surrounding the scarce but exciting Inglorious Bastards news), basically an op-ed/open letter piece arguing for him to “free” himself from the cradle of the Weinstein Company (let me know if I understood that article wrongly). Defamer rolls out a lavish praise of Quentin Tarantino, only to conclude with the words “Is your loyalty to the Weinsteins worth suffocating your work in the crib …

What do Dennis Hopper, David Carradine, and Michael Madsen have in common? They are all three way too old to be in a biker movie. But they are, and that’s a big plus for all the exploitation movie fans out there. Biker film were some of the pivotal entries in motion picture history. They were rebellious, alternative and anti-establishment films that broke the ground and made Hollywood safe for roadmovies and other freedomsy type …

After the considerable anger in the community a few years ago over the split of Kill Bill into two Volumes, the recent rumors and news about a possible split of Grind House requires both some comments from my side and some clarifications. Movie buffs in general have a negative attitude towards sequels, splitting, cutting and everything along those lines, especially if there’s a suspicion that it is done for profit, not for artistic reasons.
Why …
