We didn’t go to Cannes, but if we had, we probably would’ve seen some roughly seven minutes of Django Unchained today, and then suffered a heart attack and died, out of coolness. The Weinstein Company screened some footage of the film, something like an extended promo trailer, to industry people and journalists, and the reactions to it are great so far.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED

Much hailed by the critics already, Christoph Waltz won the Golden Palm for best performance for an actor at the Cannes Film Festival today. His performance as the evil SS Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds stole the show, and the Palm goes to the – outside the German-speaking parts of Europe – previously rather unknown actor. The award underlines the consensus among reviewers, who no matter which verdict they gave the film, mostly …

(We’ve updated this article, see paragraph below). As we’ve reported yesterday, the version of Inglourious Basterds shown at the Cannes Film Festival was missing the Maggie Cheung character and ran at a total of about 2.30. Contractually, as Variety reports, he’s allowed to deliver a two hour and 48 minutes cut, so he has enough wiggle room to put things back into the movie. Variety sais he’s supposed to go back to the editing …

While I’m sitting here waiting for it to start raining, people in Cannes are probably half way through the first minutes of Inglourious Basterds already soaking up that good ol’ Morricone. But for you and me, there’s a new clip with an introduction by Quentin at Yahoo Movies (yeah that sucks I know, someone put it on Youtube or Vimeo please, in HD!) showing the rescure of Hugo Stiglitz from a Nazi jail. Also, …

Cannes is happening, my fellow Tarantinoites (or Tarantinophiles, in LeMonde’s words). There are three new clips from the movie up at movieweb.com that give a better impression of a) Brad’s accent and personality b) Diane Kruger’s hot french accent, c) the evil that is personified in Landa and d) the use of Morricone’s L’Arena in Inglourious Basterds. Watch the three clips right here.
Also, the first two screenings have happened (the big premiere is tonight …

Yes we wish we could be reporting live from the Croisette, but the world’s not a perfect place, and nothing’s ever honky dory. Instead, we’re giving you daily wrap-ups of the shit you just can’t miss, so that you’re able to stay on top of the Tarantinoverse in between your DVD watching, beer-drinking, Googling and all those other things people do to spend their time outside of work or school. Suspense is increasing. Wednesday morning will be the first time Inglourious Basterds will be shown to insiders, critics and others, and Wednesday night will be the big premiere. The Hollywood Reporter, not exactly this website’s favorite source of movie news by the way (but neither is Variety), scored a pretty nice interview with our auteur where he talks a bit about the movie and what it means to him, and how Cannes is such …

Five days until the Inglourious Basterds premiere, and the french really are gearing up for this. From the character posters hanging down the Riz Carlton in Cannes, to the amazing article in LeMonde that you should read if you are francophone, to the official press kit (i.e. the production notes) that is – yet – only available in french, on the Festival’s website. Aside from the usual comprehensive information these press kits reveal (click …

Oh I was waitin for this one. Sgt. Stiglitz (played by Til Schweiger) may be one of the craziest motherfuckers the Basterds take up into their ranks, and he sure is one inglourious Basterd. Thanks to Slashfilm, one of my favorite movie blogs, here’s the first look at the TIL SCHWEIGER IS A BASTERD character poster from Inglourious Basterds, which – for those attending – will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival May …

Ah, so the plot thickens. Brad Pitt and Eli Roth (which we brought to you exclusively) are Basterds already, and so is Diane Kruger, now. Check it out below (or here at TwitPic). The poster comes exclusively from the OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE of Inglourious Basterds (and their Twitter feed you should follow @TheRealBasterds). Diane Kruger plays German moviestar Bridget von Hammersmark in Inglourious Basterds, a role that has been described as a secret agent, …

Wait, when you saw the Brad Pitt is a Basterd teaser poster this weekend you surely said to yourself “hey it’s called Basterds, not Basterd….”, and you were right, Inglourious Basterds is only three weeks away from being premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in all it’s epic glory, so it’s time to get to know more of those Basterds, right? Well here we go, for your (continued) exclusive viewing pleasure….. ELI ROTH IS …

Just the other day we were posting about the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair that has an exclusive photo shoot with the cast and crew of Inglourious Basterds, and now it’s available onlien. Also, the Inglourious Basterds screenplay seems to be up for pre-order on Amazon.com, yet we are not absolutely sure if it’s the real deal, as the publisher listed is not Weinstein Books. Yet The Quentin Tarantino Archives knows that – as …

Not all hope is lost my friends. After Quentin Tarantino revealed his top 20 favorites both in the Spaghetti Western and in the grindhouse genre (“That grindhouse list made me start coming up with mine! But it’s a good list…there’s a lot of films that … are on here.”  he said), I started asking some long nagging questions. I felt as the ambassador of the fan community, I should ask what is going on …

While we’re still drooling over the first two official stills from Inglourious Basterds, let me just fill you in on a few other noteworthy things that one might find in the googleverse. The yellow press is full of Brad Pitt‘s ‘stache, which we are confident will set a new trend and bring that type of facial hair the reputation it deserves. Pitt is also being quoted about Inglourious Basterds, calling it “outrageous, the World …

Retrospective articles usually aren’t very insightful and bear no news, but CNN‘s Mairy Mackay goes at it and has published a nevertheless nice retrospective piece about Quentin Tarantino, which doesn’t either. The article draws a line from QT’s first experiences at the Sundance Film Festival where he worked on, and then premiered, Reservoir Dogs, through his even bigger breakthrough with his masterpiece Pulp Fiction and his two-part epic Kill Bill, to Grindhouse‘s Death Proof. …

Oh my what have we heard about Inglorious Bastards over the years. It’s three scripts, it’s one script, it’s a remake, it’s a TV show, it’s a mini series (my favorite theory), it’s his next flick, it’s his next big flick. Fact is, Quentin J. Tarantino has an ace up his sleeve and that ace is Inglorious Bastards. After diving into the exploitation and homage-ridden worlds of Kill Bill and Death Proof, the big …

Quentin Tarantino talked about all his movie influences at Cannes’ 2008 Master Class. Directors such as Brian DePalma, Mario Bava, Howard Hawks, Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese and Jean Luc Godard were some of his biggest influences when he started out directing. QT also talks about how much acting helped him both as a writer and a director, and why he does not trust composers. Click here for some of the class blogged live, and …
