First official images from Django Unchained

Entertainment Weekly broke the first official still images from Quentin Tarantino‘s spaghetti-infused slavery revenge epic “southern” Django Unchained. One image shows Leonardo di Caprio as a hammer-wielding Calvin Candie, the other shows bounty hunter Dr. Schultz played by Christoph Waltz, as well as the titular Django, played by Jamie Foxx, a blend “between Shaft and Clint Eastwood”, as he describes. Django is looking to recover his wife Broomhilda (played by Kerry Washington, currently sending shudders through fictional Washington DC in the TV show Scandal).

EW also talked to Jamie (read the full text here), who tells them “There’s a beautiful way [Tarantino] found for the characters to talk to each other. It’s mind-blowing. You’ve never heard it this way. You’ve seen movies deal with slavery — or westerns that never dealt with slavery — do it the safe way. This way is like…wow.”

Both bounty hunters, Jamie’s (Django) hat band looks exactly like Lee’s (Jonathan Corbett) in “The Big Gundown” (La Resa dei Conti.)
