Much hailed by the critics already, Christoph Waltz won the Golden Palm for best performance for an actor at the Cannes Film Festival today. His performance as the evil SS Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds stole the show, and the Palm goes to the – outside the German-speaking parts of Europe – previously rather unknown actor. The award underlines the consensus among reviewers, who no matter which verdict they gave the film, mostly agreed on this terrific performance.

“Above all I owe this to Hans Landa and his unique and inimitable creator, Quentin Tarantino. You gave me my vocation back,” Waltz said accepting the Palme D’Or.
