It does not look good for Grindhouse

Hello there, yours truly, Seb here. Just returned from my 5th time seeing Grindhouse with yet another bunch of buddies who all went ecstatic about the film. Too bad it still isn’t making too much money. Surprise. I kind of hoped it would catch up a little, especially during last weekend’s dullness. Contactmusic.com (source) tries to confirm that the film will be split up internationally. They are blaming this entire thing now on the 3h running time, while I personally tend to blame it on ‘the people’. It’s not Grindhouse‘s fault that people are too dumb to spend 6 bucks on 3 movies that are entertaining as hell. But well, that’s nothing new. Boxofficemojo.com (source) still puts it on a not even 24 million. I wouldn’t be surprised if they let it sit in theaters for another week or two, or maybe three? Personally, I would not have taken all the ads out of the papers and off TV, especially in the run up to last weekend’s dull openings. But well, I guess the irony is that a grindhousey movie ended up just like a grindhouse movie, not making gigantic amounts of money. The only problem being that cost gigantic amounts of money for a small flick like that. I hope it rocks the international box offices though, where it will be Tarantino’s next film Death Proof in full length (about 115 minutes) in the summer, and maybe Rodriguez’ Planet Terror (for most countries, no release date has been set) clocking at around 95 minutes or so full length. We’ll keep you posted, but we’ll also continue publishing our Grindhouse interviews (see below)
